It seems that Microsoft have confirmed that the HTC HD2 will NOT be upgradable to Windows Phone 7. While there still might be some hope if the ROM appears on the XDA Developers web site it certainly will not be  supported from Microsoft.

For Windows Phone 7 Series we are enforcing a strict set of hardware requirements to ensure a consistently great experience for end-users and developers. While we cannot confirm that WM6.X phones that satisfy those requirements will be upgradeable, every Windows Phone 7 Series device will be upgradeable with improvements and features we deliver with subsequent Windows Phone 7 Series releases. We currently do not have plans to update the HTC HD2 to Windows Phone 7 Series.

A Dutch web site WinMo.nl has a photo of the HTC HD2 running Windows Phone 7.

Some of the interesting points on the site are:

• Multilingual support
• It was running a Windows Mobile 6.x version of TomTom Navigator so presumably it is at least partially backwards compatible.
• Its Fast – Apparently the device ran faster than Windows Mobile 6.5

Seem like the HTC HD2 T-Mobile phone is getting an upgrade before the device is even released. The official T-Mobile USA twitter account just tweeted that they will be releasing some details about changes to the HTC HD2 later this week (probably after MWC starts). I think the most likely guess is that they will announce that the HTC HD2 will launch with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 which is supposed to be far more touch friendly.

What would be really nice is if they announce that the HTC HD2 is going to support Windows Phone 7. This could explain the rumoured 4gb internal version ROM of the phone that is supposed to be coming soon.
